La mia passione per la fotografia è iniziata quando avevo circa 10-12 anni. Seguivo mio padre nella sua passione per la fotografia in bianco e nero, utilizzando una Contaflex con obiettivo Zeiss Tessar 45 mm f/2.8. Ricordo ancora quando sviluppava le fotografie insieme a me nel bagno di casa. My passion for photography began when I was about 10-12 years old. I followed my father in his passion for black-and-white photography, using a Contaflex with a Zeiss Tessar 45 mm f/2.8 lens. I still remember developing photographs with him in our bathroom at home.
I suoi gravi problemi di salute ci allontanarono da questa passione, che ripresi molti anni dopo, questa volta da solo, ma continuando a fotografare con la sua macchina fotografica. His serious health problems eventually took us away from this hobby. I returned to photography many years later, this time on my own, but still using his camera.
Qualche anno più tardi mia madre mi permise di acquistare una splendida Pentax MX con un 55 mm f/1.8. Con quella macchina fotografai molto, fino a quando scoprii la Nikon FE2. Some years later my mother allowed me to buy a wonderful Pentax MX with a 55 mm f/1.8 lens. I took many photographs with it until I discovered the Nikon FE2.
Sono fortemente astigmatico e per questo motivo apprezzai immediatamente la nitidezza dell'obiettivo Nikon 50 mm f/1.4. I have strong astigmatism, and for this reason I immediately appreciated the sharpness of the Nikon 50 mm f/1.4 lens.
Successivamente, altri importanti problemi di salute mi costrinsero ancora una volta a interrompere la fotografia. Solo tre anni dopo riuscii a riprendere in mano la mia vita e, insieme ad essa, anche la fotografia. Later, further serious health problems forced me to stop photography once again. Only three years later was I able to get my life back and, with it, return to photography.
Ripresi inizialmente con la FE2 e poi, con l'arrivo del digitale, con una Olympus Camedia C-1400 L. Dopo qualche tempo, la Fuji Finepix S2 Pro, con i suoi 6 megapixel, riaccese definitivamente la mia passione. I started again with the FE2 and then, with the arrival of digital photography, moved to an Olympus Camedia C-1400 L. After a while, the Fuji Finepix S2 Pro, with its 6 megapixels, brought my passion back to life.
Per molti anni ho fotografato paesaggi, natura e viaggi. Non avevo particolari pretese tecniche riguardo alla composizione: fotografavo semplicemente ciò che mi piaceva e che desideravo ricordare. For many years I photographed landscapes, nature and travel. I did not have particular technical ambitions regarding composition: I simply photographed what I liked and what I wanted to remember.
Per me la natura è sempre stata la cosa più bella che la vita ci offre. To me, nature has always been the most beautiful thing life gives us.
Quando uscì la Nikon D100 tornai a Nikon, un marchio che mi attirava per la nitidezza degli obiettivi e anche per la possibilità di poter contare, in caso di necessità, sull'assistenza Nital a Torino. When the Nikon D100 was released, I returned to Nikon, a brand that attracted me for the sharpness of its lenses and also because, if needed, I could rely on Nital assistance in Turin.
In seguito un caro amico mi portò a fotografare gli uccelli. Ammirare specie dai colori fantastici, come il Gruccione, e comportamenti incredibili, come quelli del Martin pescatore, fece esplodere in me la passione per la fotografia naturalistica e per la necessità di realizzare rapide sequenze di scatto. Later, a good friend took me bird photography. Seeing species with fantastic colours, such as the European Bee-eater, and incredible behaviour, such as that of the Kingfisher, sparked a new passion for wildlife photography and the need for rapid shooting sequences.
Con l'accordo di mia moglie acquistai la Nikon D850 e il Tamron 150-600 G2. Dopo alcune difficoltà iniziali, compresi che l'obiettivo doveva essere regolato per correggere il front/back focus. With my wife's approval, I bought the Nikon D850 and Tamron 150-600 G2. After some initial difficulties, I realized that the lens needed adjustment to correct its front/back focus.
Nel corso degli anni ho continuato a studiare e a cercare di migliorare la mia tecnica. Ho iniziato a utilizzare programmi di post-produzione e a lavorare anche sulla composizione, seguendo video e leggendo libri. Over the years I continued studying and trying to improve my technique. I began using post-processing software and also worked on composition, following videos and reading books.
In seguito è arrivata l'astrofotografia del profondo cielo. Un mondo completamente diverso dalla fotografia terrestre, ma capace di suscitare la stessa curiosità che mi ha accompagnato fin dall'inizio: osservare, imparare e cercare di trasformare ciò che mi affascina in un'immagine. Later came deep-sky astrophotography. It is a completely different world from terrestrial photography, yet it creates the same curiosity that has accompanied me from the beginning: observing, learning and trying to turn what fascinates me into an image.
In questo nuovo percorso ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare un grande amico, Alberto Airola, che mi ha guidato e accompagnato fino a ciò che riesco a fare oggi. Mi ha aiutato nella scelta dell'attrezzatura, nell'apprendimento del suo utilizzo e, successivamente, nella post-produzione delle immagini. In this new journey I was fortunate to meet a great friend, Alberto Airola, who guided and accompanied me to where I am today. He helped me choose my equipment, learn how to use it and, later, develop my image-processing skills.
Ancora oggi Alberto mi supporta con preziosi consigli e la sua esperienza. È anche grazie a questo percorso condiviso che ho potuto mettere per iscritto il nostro metodo di elaborazione, raccogliendo e organizzando nel Workflow PixInsight le procedure, le esperienze e gli insegnamenti maturati nel tempo. Alberto still supports me today with valuable advice and his experience. It is also thanks to this shared journey that I was able to put our processing method into writing, collecting and organizing in the PixInsight Workflow the procedures, experiences and lessons developed over time.
Nel mio percorso di avvicinamento all'astronomia ho avuto anche la possibilità di far parte del GAEEB – Gruppo Astrofili E. E. Barnard di Ciriè. Attraverso il gruppo ho seguito corsi di formazione dedicati all'astronomia di base, alla scelta e all'uso dei telescopi e alla post-produzione delle immagini astronomiche. As I became more involved in astronomy, I also had the opportunity to join GAEEB – Gruppo Astrofili E. E. Barnard di Ciriè. Through the group I attended training courses on basic astronomy, telescope selection and use, and astronomical image processing.
Con il gruppo partecipo a serate e nottate osservative e ad attività di divulgazione, comprese esposizioni pubbliche nelle quali condividiamo con altre persone il risultato del nostro hobby e la nostra passione per l'astronomia. With the group I take part in observing evenings and nights, as well as outreach activities and public exhibitions where we share our work and our passion for astronomy with others.
Oggi sento il desiderio di mettere ordine nel mio percorso e di condividere non soltanto le immagini finali, ma anche ciò che sta dietro ogni fotografia: gli oggetti ripresi, le condizioni di acquisizione, l'attrezzatura e soprattutto il metodo di elaborazione. Today I want to bring together my photographic journey and share not only the final images, but also what lies behind each photograph: the objects photographed, acquisition conditions, equipment and, above all, my processing method.
Il mio obiettivo non è presentarmi come un esperto, ma continuare a imparare e condividere ciò che ho imparato. Anche le critiche e i suggerimenti sono importanti, perché aiutano a vedere aspetti che ancora non conosciamo. My aim is not to present myself as an expert, but to keep learning and sharing what I have learned. Criticism and suggestions are also important, because they help us see aspects we do not yet know.
La fotografia, per me, è sempre stata il modo di fermare in un'immagine qualcosa che mi emoziona. Oggi quella ricerca continua guardando verso il cielo. For me, photography has always been a way of capturing in an image something that moves me. Today that search continues by looking towards the sky.
